Episode 4: Azul

In the fourth episode of our podcast, we speak with Manuel Van Hecke. He is the founder and owner of Albion Games in Kortrijk. This is a store exclusively focused on board games and nerd and geek culture. Manuel is always happy to help customers in their search for new games.

It is no surprise that someone who owns such a store also enjoys playing board games. We asked Manuel about his favorite game, but he couldn't choose. He has several favorite board games, including the game 'Azul'. I have heard a lot about this game myself, but have never played it. Time to get to know this game better!

Azul is a strategic board game in which players are tile artists inspired by Moorish decorations. At the request of Portuguese King Manuel I, they decorate the walls of his palace in Evora. They will score more points with some patterns than others. The game was created and designed by Michael kiesling and has received many awards since 2017, including Spiel des Jahres, l'As d'Or and Toy of the Year.

Curious about what Manuel likes so much about Azul? And above all: is he a good or bad loser? Listen to the podcast here.
