Curious if the Schermstrijd Card Game is right for your family? Read below to find out how to play the game.
Step 1. Determine the amount of time being played for
Take the Schermstrijd Card Game score sheet and start by filling in the start time. This is the amount of screen time children get daily. For example, is the 'screen time rule' at your home 30 minutes per day? Then fill this in as the start time. You are completely free to choose. In the example below, we start with 60 minutes of start time.

The score sheet shows 6 dice eyes. Here you fill in how much time is being played for when this eye is rolled.
This is the amount of time you can win or lose per round. Here too, you completely decide how much time you fill in.
In my example, I have added up 5 minutes per die eye.
Now roll for the time you can win (fill in at + ) or lose (fill in at -)
For example. As a child, I rolled a 3. For 3, it is 15'. I can win 15 minutes if I win this round. Then, as a parent, I rolled a 5. If I win as a parent, the children lose 25' of their base time in this round.
Each team has a time being played for! Great! Then you are ready to start the game!
Step 2. Lay out the PIN code
The game consists of several cards with the WIFI symbol on them. In addition, you have a number of special cards. With those wifi cards, a code is randomly placed in the middle of the table. This is done by drawing 4 randomly chosen cards from the deck at the beginning of each round and placing them in the middle of the table. This is the code that each player must complete as quickly as possible.
In the example below, players must complete the code in the middle of the table as quickly as possible (purple - blue - purple - pink)

Step 3. Deal the cards and start the game
Each player receives 5 cards at the beginning of the game. The rest of the cards go into the deck and are placed in the middle of the table.
Each player also receives a card with the actions on it. Per round, a player can perform one of the 6 possible actions depending on the number the player rolls with the die.

A round starts as follows.
- Each player rolls the die.
- Perform an action (see action card)
- Take a card from the deck
- Play a card. I.E. if possible, complete their code.
The goal of each round is to complete the code as quickly as possible
Whoever completes the code first wins the round If it is the children, then they have won screen time. If it is the parents, then the children have lost screen time. The losing number is scratched off on the score sheet.
Then a new round begins. Lay out a new code and roll for the time you can win or lose.
Step 4. End of the game
You decide how many rounds you play. At the end, you add the won time to the base time and/or subtract the lost time. This gives you a final time. This is the new screen time that kids get and that you played for!
